VACCINE INFORMATION

Vaccine Status

Boerne and Kendall County will continue to work with local partners on the state of Texas’ plan to distribute COVID-19 vaccines to critical populations, within the phases designated by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

As of January 25, 2021, the three current providers in Kendall County – H-E-B, My Urgent Care Boerne, and Kendall County EMS – have allocated all the vaccines they have received and are awaiting to get additional shipments. The City of Boerne has also submitted an application to the state Department of Health Services to become a regional vaccine provider. That application is still pending and we do not know if or when it will be approved. We continue to press on this topic and will be ready to take immediate action if our application is approved and we receive vaccine for the Boerne community.  The city has established a dedicated phone line people can call regarding any questions or for information -- 830-331-9990.

Providers, as determined by the state, continue to focus on vaccinating Phase 1A and Phase 1B populations. At this time, the Texas Department of State Health Services has communicated to local officials they currently do not have a public COVID-19 registration process. Individuals curious about where they can receive their vaccine should check with their primary care provider to see if they plan to be a vaccine provider. Each provider will likely have their own sign-up system, though they have all been trained on providing the vaccine and the allocation order by Texas DSHS.

Here's what we know about vaccine distribution so far:

  • Supply is very limited in our area.
  • Several clinics, doctors offices, other medical facilities in Kendall County have applied to the state to be providers of the COVID-19 vaccine. If they are selected, we will share their information and it will be included on DSHS's Vaccine Provider Locator Map.
  • If you are in an eligible group defined by the state to get vaccinated, you can call local providers for availability and scheduling. Do not just show up asking for a vaccine.
  • Providers are receiving high call volume and may not be able to answer immediately, so have patience.

Vaccine distribution guidelines

Texas will receive regular allotments of vaccine from the federal government. Vaccine will be shipped directly to enrolled COVID-19 vaccine providers as allocated by the Department of State Health Services (DSHS). Those providers will then immunize Texans who choose to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Read more about the plan.

The DSHS website provides ample information on who, where and when vaccine is available.

San Antonio and MetroHealth have established a website for people to sign up for vaccinations.

While not required, it is highly encouraged that people receiving their second dose return to the same provider that administered the first shot.

Current Rules and Regulations

Following Governor Abbott's Executive Order GA-32, Kendall County bars must close temporarily and local businesses are required to reduce their capacities to 50%. In addition, all elective surgeries are temporarily suspended. These restrictions will remain in place until Trauma Service Area P, which includes Kendall County, is below a 15% hospitalization rate for seven consecutive days. Abbott has also mandated that everyone must wear a mask or facial covering in public settings. This requirement applies to Kendall County.

On Jan, 11, Texas Governor Greg Abbott provided an update on COVID-19 vaccine efforts.

Even before Kendall County recorded its first COVID-19 case in mid-March, local leaders discussed how to best respond to an ever-changing situation. Since then, we have rallied around our community to keep small businesses afloat, limit the spread of the virus, and come together to see Boerne through this.
