Gas Safety

The City of Boerne works diligently to keep our natural gas distribution system safe and reliable.

On a routine basis, we survey and monitor our natural gas system for leaks using a variety of specialized leak detection equipment. We also rely on the public to call us if a leak is suspected.

If you smell gas, or just think you might be smelling gas, leave the area immediately. From a safe distance, call 911 and the City of Boerne at 830-248-1633, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The City of Boerne will dispatch qualified personnel immediately to investigate at no cost.

How to Recognize a Gas Leak

  1. Smell:  A distinctive rotten egg odor is added to natural gas.
  2. Listen:  Listen for an unusual hissing or blowing sound around gas appliances or gas lines.
  3. Look:  Watch for blowing dirt, dry spots in moist areas, or dead grass in areas near gas lines

Suspect a Gas Leak

  1. Do not turn any lights on or off, smoke, use a cell phone, or operate a vehicle or other equipment that might cause a spark.
  2. Do not try to locate the leak yourself.
  3. Leave the area immediately.
  4. Call the City of Boerne at 830-248-1633

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIX A LEAK ON YOUR OWN IF YOU DISCOVER A LEAK!
