The renovation of The Hub, the second floor space for teens in grades 6 and up, not only increases area and brightens the space, it also creates more flexible, zoned spaces for teens. We hope to create more of a destination space for the large numbers of teens coming to the library every day during the school year. Teens have been heavily involved in the planning of the new space by participating in a focus group and survey over the last 8 months.

In the newly created space that will be closed off from the larger space with a garage door, we can:

  • Conduct programming, such as maker and craft activities and movies, which is currently not possible
  • Provide gaming and computer options when the space is not being used for programming
  • Have space and technology for serving many user groups

In the rest of the space, teens can do homework, read and socialize. An additional study room, which addresses the need for more quiet space in the library, is also being added and can be accessed from the main second floor space and from The Hub.

The teen space is currently 900 square feet; the final space will be 1,530 square feet (including 60 square feet for the study room).
